New Garage in Hawthorn

Neat, Sweet & Appropriately Petite

Tailored designs to suit your budget and your property are our specialty at Custom Outdoor Living.  It’s not only our clients who demand quality – we demand it of ourselves, because that’s what we’re known for!  And this stunning one car garage in Hawthorn is no exception.

“Our first visit to the property definitely presented food for thought,”  explains Matt Goodie, Custom Outdoor Living’s Managing Director and Lead Designer.  “This red brick heritage home was deceptively different.  On the outside, it had the appearance of a single dwelling with a basic carport on one side, and a single brick garage on the other.  The fact is, the house was actually two properties on two Titles – sharing the same roofline.  One with a garage, and one without!  Not to be outdone, our carport owners wanted to have a design that was cohesively similar in style to their very near neighbours, to compliment the entire shared landscape.  And that’s exactly what we delivered.”

The existing heritage features of leadlight windows, an artistic brick chimney, timber fretwork and a charming verandah made it imperative to keep to tradition, to design with a customised mindset, and to create something really lovely to maximise functionality, style and space.

The original carport was quite simplistic, with a broken concrete pathway that had seen much better days.  It was clearly time to demolish, polish and replace what was there, and install a garage to increase security – and the aesthetics of course.

Footings were carefully dug to avoid the stormwater clay pipe plumbing, and a new PVC system was laid.  The garage brickwork was established on the boundary, whilst the new build was offset from the house itself, to create a walkway to the property’s small rear backyard.  The rear was concreted along with the path and driveway, incorporating spoon drains and step risers as necessary.  This made for a seamless and maintenance-free zone in all respects.

True to our reputation for unique design and construction practises, a rear exit door and a timber truss roof were added to this new brick garage in Hawthorn, and timber and render trim in heritage style showcased the front from the street.  Importantly, second-hand red bricks and terracotta roof tiles were also sourced for added historical authenticity.

To finish, the trimmings and drain works were painted with matching traditional paint colours, and a quilted panel roller door was installed.

Custom Outdoor Living’s Garage design experts in Melbourne took care of all Planning Permits, Council Dispensations and Engineering, and naturally attended to all Council Compliance requirements.

It goes without saying that the property’s owners were delighted with the end result!
